Online shopping is becoming more and more social

Online shopping is becoming more and more social

Social media platforms are used for many things. For users, procrastination probably springs to mind. Business owners and marketers would be more likely to say advertising. There is something is coming to more and more of these platforms that essentially combines the two. Online shopping capabilities are being built in to the social media platforms themselves. A pair of them either updated or launched their offering over the last few days. Continue reading »
St. Patrick’s Day marketing campaigns that pumpkin spiced up brands

St. Patrick’s Day marketing campaigns that pumpkin spiced up brands

Here at ROI Media Works, we not only work in marketing, we love it too. That’s why we’re going to bring you the best seasonal marketing campaigns we’ve seen every month. Once a year, the world turns green. St. Patrick’s Day marketing campaigns can turn your competitors green with envy. If you were, say, a plumbing company, it would likely not be wise to turn all the water in your customer’s houses green. The same could be said for dog groomers, as you would likely have some explaining to do beyond “it’s St. Patrick’s Day!” when your customer picks up a green Poodle. Now that we’ve cleared that up, St Patrick’s Day marketing campaigns are something you should embrace. Continue reading »
Whitepapers: What are they and how should your business be using them?

Whitepapers: What are they and how should your business be using them?

We think it’s safe to say that absolutely nobody enjoys receiving spam e-mails or phone calls. They definitely affect the mood in the ROI Media Works office, lemme tell yah. So, Vircom, an anti-spam software company, decided to shed some light on this whole spam epidemic. They created a report entitled Why Spammers Spam and made it available to download. Then the floodgates opened. That White Paper Guy claims the report has been downloaded over 2,200 times and generated roughly $94,000 in profit. What would reports such as these be called in marketing terms? Whitepapers. Continue reading »
Voice marketing: a brief introduction

Voice marketing: a brief introduction

We’re sure that some of you remember the first time you saw somebody talking on a cellphone. Many of us can also recall the first time they thought a stranger was striking up a conversation, only to see their Bluetooth earpiece as they walked by. We hope this post can create a similar moment: the first time you genuinely considered how voice marketing would work within your business’ marketing strategy. Continue reading »
Page speed is in the news again

Page speed is in the news again

Exactly one month ago, we told you that two internet juggernauts were joining forces in the name of page speed. Google and WordPress had established a partnership that aimed to grow the development of both platforms. Google had selected a team of engineers that will oversee the way the two companies interact. We figured that their first attempt to satisfy their need for page speed, adding page speed as ranking factor on mobile search, was only the tip of the iceberg. Now, we can see that ice is forming under the water’s surface. Continue reading »
SparkToro: The new kid on the influencer marketing block

SparkToro: The new kid on the influencer marketing block

It really is the end of an era. Rand Fishkin announced last week that he would be leaving the company he co-founded. It had been 17 years since that founding and Fishken quipped about how it felt walking out the door for the last time. In a blog post, he rated the experience: “On a scale of 0-10, where 0 is ‘fired and escorted out of the building by security’ and 10 is ‘left entirely of his own accord on wonderful terms,’ my departure is around a 4. That makes today a hard one, cognitively and emotionally.” We think many share this sentiment. But, we shall look not to the past (Moz) but to the future with SparkToro, Fishkin’s new gig. Building a website from scratch

Building a website from scratch

If you keep up with our blog content, you’ll often here us referring to the digital marketing inclined. This refers to the people we read, talk to or connect with. We are also very much in that camp as fans of digital marketing. But, sometimes we can get a little carried away. We yell at you about SEO, we command you to set up PPC campaigns, we lecture you on SMM. None of this can be done, however, without a good foundation. So, we though today we would explain how you should go about building a website from scratch. Continue reading »
Vero: The new kid on the social media block

Vero: The new kid on the social media block

Sometimes, a burger restaurant opens up down the street from McDonald’s or a doughnut shop opens adjacent to Tim Horton’s. The world of social media sees a similar occurrence every now and then. Innovative and confident people understand the digital equivalent of burgers and doughnuts and decide they’re going to serve those up, only better. That’s exactly what we’re looking at with Vero, the most recent social media platform to receive widespread coverage. Continue reading »
Personal content: More of it is coming to your Facebook News Feed

Personal content: More of it is coming to your Facebook News Feed

In the mid 2000’s, thefacebook.com was founded out of the Harvard College dorms. A name change, decade-and-a-half and supersonic growth coupled with countless controversies later, Facebook is going back to their roots. Founded on the premise of improved social connection, Facebook became a platform of constant flux. For better or for worse, the content users were seeing on their News Feeds seemed to be inconsistent. This meant users weren’t feeling that social connection they had grown accustomed to. So, Facebook decided to change that recently and revert their focus back to personal content. Continue reading »
Typography: The Ins and Outs

Typography: The Ins and Outs

There’s Helvetica, Arial, Myriad and PT Sans. Bold, italic, underline and strikethrough. You’ve made fun of Comic Sans, drank bottles of Spencerian, been forced into Times New Roman and watched countless hours of films that displayed Waltograph in their openings. Sure, you have fonts down pat. They are, however, only one aspect of the larger field of typography. Even though it is a large field, most often only known of fonts. Since it will create better looking websites (in that case everybody wins), we thought it would be worthwhile to ponder what exists past fonts. Here are four questions that will give you the answer.
