Facebook Marketing – What’s Behind The Emotions?

Facebook has been testing these new reactions in different markets. This is really an exciting news for millions of Facebook users, for us it feels like Facebook marketing teams can now distinguish various posts by emotions and the sponsored posts can be tailored to these audiences.

What Are These New Facebook Reactions?

Facebook now allows it’s users to be more expressive.  They have added various reactions in addition to the “like” button. The additions to the ‘like’ team include the veteran ‘like’, along with five other newcomers: ‘love’, ‘haha’, ‘wow’, ‘sad’, and ‘angry’. This means your news feeds definitely gets more expressive. At least for now you can’t say thumbs down but use other reactions to be more expressive. But you can use “love” rather than commenting “Love it!”

Facebook decided to test reactions in countries like Spain, China, Japan, and Columbia before they released it to the rest of the world because they wanted to make sure that they chose the right emotions that could resonate with people all around the world in different countries (source: Mashable).

What Does This Means To The Facebook Users?

Facebook tailored posts: As many of you aware Facebook news feed is filled with lots of interesting posts. Posts from your friends, trending news or news about your favorite movie star. Facebook uses a sophisticated algorithm to tailor these posts that appear on your news feed. For example you are regularly liking a page posts suggest that it’s a priority in your news feed out of all other pages you liked.

With the new reactions it works very similar. If you are reacting with a “love” you may start seeing more posts that has similar reactions in your feed. Would the same apply with “angry” reaction? Probably yes but we are hoping the news feed can be more uplifting than being depressive.

You may have seen the sponsored posts from Facebook marketers, these can probably be tailored and you may see most from your favorite brands.

What Does It Mean For Brands & Business Pages?

This allows users to react more appropriately to your Facebook page content. It allows page owners to see what posts are performing better emotionally and what’s not connecting with their fans. As you know Facebook marketing can be a great tool to build relationships with your customers, this new reactions definitely adds value. It helps brands to respond more appropriately to their fans. You can view these reactions in Facebook insights and they will have same impact as Facebook likes when you are running ad campaigns.
