Today is International Women’s Day!

Today we should all take the time to celebrate the women in our lives. Celebrate their achievements and understand their struggles.

Before we get to the post, you should check out Google’s International Women’s Day video that’s on their homepage! It’s pretty awesome.

Also! Here’s a video from our very own Thompson Rivers University! This video was produced by Thompson Rivers University World and provides insight from women who study at TRU. They share their opinions, their goals, and inspiration. Enjoy!

International Women’s Day was first celebrated on February 28th of 1909. It was later proposed in 1911 by Luise Zietz that it be celebrated annually as an international holiday. Since its beginning more than 100 years ago, we slowly been seeing a change in economic and social standings.2 Women have gained the power to vote, and they are seen as key contributors to society just as men are. Sadly – and this is only one of the equality problems that women face – there is still a gap in the wages between men and women in the workplace. Fortunately, there are organizations and key influencers that fight for the rights and equality of women, and they are acquiring more and more numbers every year. According to the International Women’s Day website, many influencers have pledged to be “champions of gender parity within [their] organization and in the wider world.” Among these influencers are Fiona Dawson, Global President of Mars Foods, Drinks & Multi-sales, and Richard Branson, the founder of Virgin Group.1

If you’re looking for some awesome women inspiration we gathered just a few of our favourite women-focused ads. We find these ads have strong messages to send to young girls and women from all over the world.
